Insulated Glass

Insulated glass is simply two panes of glass joined together with a sealed spacer around the perimeter. It is also known as double pane and thermal pane. The insulating factors are determined by the type of glass used in combination, an outer pane and an inner pane. The other factors are the air space in between the two or three panes of glass. The larger the air space, the better the insulating factor. One more factor is the use of argon gas; argon gas is used normally when the window frame and insulated glass unit will not meet the energy value required by the manufacturer, customer or code. Argon gas will improve the energy transfer and is often enough to bring the window and glass combination into the energy savings range desired.

Insulated glass also helps reduce noise transfer in offices and homes. Again, the combination of glass types and air space will affect the amount of sound reduction for each application. Insulated glass can be heat-strengthened and safety-tempered as needed. Interior grids can be added to affect the appearance.
